How to choose competitor product pages for price monitoring
Choose a competitor product page that could change a pricing, promotion or stock decision. Check that its offer is comparable to yours.
lookalytic calls each monitored page a watch. It checks the page on a schedule and can alert you when a selected value changes. Start with one page and review its first result before adding more.
Choose a page you would act on
A competitor's price drop might prompt a review of your own offer. A product returning to stock might affect a promotion. Leave a page out if nobody can explain what they would do with its changes.
You choose the pages yourself. lookalytic does not discover catalogues, match products across stores or change your prices.
Check the offer details
Similar product names can describe different offers. Compare these details before using a competitor's price in a decision.
| Check | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Product and variant | Model, size, colour, capacity and pack size |
| Seller | Who sells the offer, including the selected marketplace seller |
| Condition | New, refurbished or used, where applicable |
| Price basis | Currency, unit price and any visible price conditions |
| Delivery | Shipping cost and destination |
| Availability | Whether the page says the item is available |
Suppose you sell a new 256 GB phone. A lower price for a refurbished 128 GB model describes a different offer. Record those differences before comparing prices. Treat missing details as uncertain.
Start with one page in lookalytic
- Open the e-commerce monitoring workflow and select "Start monitoring". Sign in if prompted and create a workspace if you are new.
- Paste the public product URL. Choose which supported details to track, such as price or availability.
- Choose how often to check the page and where change notifications should go.
- Select "Create watch" and review its first check. The first successful check sets the starting point. Later changes to selected values can trigger alerts.
Some pages do not expose the values lookalytic needs. If the first check fails, review the monitoring problem before relying on that page.

Start monitoring a product pageReview changes before acting
Decide who reviews each alert. Check the offer details and your own margin before changing a price or promotion.
Scheduled checks record observations at particular times. A change between checks may go unrecorded. Compare the current plans and check allowances when choosing a schedule.
If a later check fails, lookalytic keeps the last valid observation and shows a monitoring problem. Check the error before treating an older value as current.
Revisit your shortlist when the product, seller or offer terms change. Remove pages whose observations no longer help a decision.
